Visa for China (Mainland)

Basic Requirements:

1. Passport- Original passport that is valid for at least another 6 months with at least one blank visa page, a photocopy of the passport's information/photo page and emergency contact page. The previous old passport, if available, is required to be submitted; if the old passport is lost, or the applicant never holds a passport before, please make a clear statement in item 3.7 of the Visa Application Form.

2. Visa Application Form – Please submit truthfully completed and signed Visa Application Form of the People's Republic of China. Please type the answer in Chinese or capital English letters in the space provided or put a check mark √ for appropriate choices. Do not leave any field blank. Type N/A if the item does not apply.

3. Photo – Please provide 2 color photos and affix one of the photos on the Application Form. The photo should be recent (within 6 months), front view, white background, in 48mm x 33mm size without covering the ears and forehead. Stapled/taped/clipped/detached photos will not be accepted.

Visa Categories and Documents Required:

C Crew Visa

Issued to international train attendants, aircrew members, seaman, motor vehicle drivers engaged in international transportation activities, and to their accompanying family members.

Submit the guarantee letter issued by the foreign airlines or shipping companies, or invitation letters issued by the relevant organizations in China.

D Permanent Resident Visa

Issued to applicants who are going to reside permanently in China.

Submit the original and photocopy of the Confirmation Form of Alien Permanent Residence Status in China issued by the Ministry of Public Security.

F Visitor Visa for Academic, Cultural, Scientific, and Other Non-Commercial Activity Visit.

Issued to applicants who are invited to China for exchanges, visits, lectures or study tours, and other similar activities.

Submit the invitation letters issued by the inviting unit in China.

G Transit Visa

Issued to applicants who are going to transit through China.

Submit the confirm connecting tickets for transit to a third country or region by an international aircraft, ship, or train via China.

J1 Journalist Visa

Issued to resident foreign journalists in China.

Submit the visa notifications issued by the Information Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry and official/endorsement letters from the employer.

J2 Journalist Visa

Issued to journalists who visit China for temporary news coverage.

Submit the visa notifications issued by the Information Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry or other competent Chinese authorities and official/endorsement letters from the applicant’s employer.

L Tourist Visa

Issued to applicants who are going to China for sightseeing purposes; tourist going to China on a group may apply for group tourists visa.

Submit the travel itinerary, reservation of round-trip airline ticket, and hotel, or invitation letter from the inviting units in China. The invitation letter shall include/state the following information:

1. Invitee’s passport information

2. Invitee’s travel itinerary: date of arrival and departure, tour destinations, etc.

3. Inviter’s information: name, contact details, address, official/company stamp and signature of the legal representative (if the inviting unit is a company) or photocopy of Chinese National ID/ Passport with Chinese Residence Permit (if the inviting unit is an individual)

M Business Visa

Issued to applicants who are invited to China for commercial, and trade activities.

Submit the invitation letter issued by the commercial business partner in China. The invitation letter shall state/include the following:

1. Invitee’s passport information

2. Invitee’s visiting information: the purpose, date of arrival and departure, contact details, address, relations with the inviting units in China, financial sources, etc.

3. Inviter’s information: name, contact details, address, official/company stamp, official representative’s signature, etc.

Q1 Family Reunion Visa

Issued to applicants who are family members of Chinese Nationals or family members of foreign nationals with Chinese Permanent Resident Permit, to stay in China for more than 180 days, and for applicants who will be placed under foster care.

Submit the invitation letter from relatives in China who must attach a copy of his/her personal/Chinese National ID or Chinese Permanent Resident Permit, and the original and photocopy of proofs of kinship. For applicants who will be under foster care, submit the notarized child foster care letter, photocopy of trustee’s passport, proof of kinship, photocopy of trustor’s approval letter and passport/national ID, and if both or one of the parent is a Chinese national, submit a photocopy of their resident permit in foreign country.

Q2 Family Visit Visa

Issued to applicants who are family members of Chinese or foreign nationals with Chinese Permanent Resident Permit, to stay in China for less than 180 days.

Submit the invitation letters from relatives in China who must attach a copy of his/her personal/Chinese National ID or Chinese Permanent Resident Permit.

R Professional Talent Visa

Issued to applicants who have high-level qualified talents or whose skills are urgently needed in China.

Submit visa notices issued by competent organizations in China.

S1 Dependent Visa/ Visitor Visa

Issued to applicants who are family members of foreign nationals who work, study in China to stay in China for more than 180 days, or for applicants who will stay in China for more than 180 days for personal affairs.

Submit invitation letter from relatives in China who must attach a copy of his/her personal passport, Residence Permit for Aliens, and original and photocopy of proofs of kinship. For applicants who will stay in China for personal affairs, please submit documents supporting the purpose of visit.

S2 Dependent Visa/ Visitor Visa

Issued to family members of foreign nationals who work, study in China, to stay in China for less than 180 days, or for applicants who will stay in China for less than 180 days for personal affairs.

Submit the invitation letter from relatives in China who must attach a copy of his/her passport, Residence Permit for Aliens, and original and photocopy of proofs of kinship. For applicants who will stay in China for personal affairs, please submit documents supporting the purpose of visit.

X1 Study Visa

Issued to applicants who will study in China for more than 180 days

Submit the original and photocopy of Admission Notice from the school and Visa Application for Study in China Form JW-201 or Form JW-202.

X2 Study Visa

Issued to applicants who will study in China for less than 180 days

Submit the original and photocopy of Admission Notice from China.

Z Working Visa

Issued to applicants who will be taking up posts or employment or giving commercial performances in China.

Submit the original and copy of Employment/Working Permit.

NOTE: Applicants who will be going to China to work for a short-term period shall apply for a visa in accordance with the Approval of Short-Term Employment for Foreigners Working in China issued by a competent Department/Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security in China.

The invitation letter must contain the following information:

1. Applicant’s passport information

2. Information on the planned visit: purpose of the visit, date of arrival and departure, places of visit, relations with the inviting units, financial sources, etc.

3. Information of the inviter: name, contact details, address, official stamp, the signature of legal representative, or the inviting individual.

The proof of kinship refers to the marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by the Chinese Public Security Bureau, or notarized certification of kinship.

Additional Requirements:

1. First Time Applicant

a. Bank Certificate and Bank Statement (for the past 6 months) with their original receipt;

b. BIR-stamped Income Tax Return Form;

c. Certificate of Employment (if employed) indicating the applicant’s salary and duration of employment ;

d. Business Registration Certificate/ Business Permit and DTI (if doing business)

e. Professional ID/ Student ID (if applicable)

f. Other relevant documents proving the applicant’s economic condition/ employment/ study, or supporting the applicant’s travel in China, or explaining the travel purpose (if applicable).

2. Previous Chinese Passport

The first-time applicant whose former nationality was Chinese, or who was born in China (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), must submit their previous Chinese (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan) passport and copy of its bio-page, and extension page (if applicable). There is no need to provide the requirements mentioned in number 1.

3. Previous Chinese Visa

If the applicant had obtained a Chinese visa before, submit a photocopy of the visa, and if the visa is on the old passport, submit the old passport.

4. Certificate of Change of Name

If the name in the present passport is different from that in the previous one, the official document (birth certificate/marriage contract) issued by authorities for name changed must be submitted.

5. Non-Filipino Nationals

Please submit a photocopy of the residence permit, employment or study visa issued by the Philippine government. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, temporary visitors to the Philippines should apply for Chinese visas from the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in the countries in which they live. The consular officer will decide whether to grant the visa application or not on a case-to-case basis, based on the submitted proof of employment/study or other occupational status, photocopy of the Philippine visa and immigration entry stamp on the passport.

6. Visit Tibet

Applicants may join a tourist group organized by Authorized Travel Agency. If the applicants plan to visit Tibet individually, he/she must contact the Tourism Administration of the Tibet Autonomous Region (Tel: 0086-891-6834313; Fax: 0086-891-6834632) in advance and to provide the Visa Notification issued by it.

7. Special Tour in China

Applicants who are applying for a special tour in China like hiking, cycling, horse-riding, hot-air balloon, or other expeditions should submit the original and photocopy of Invitation Letter for Tourist issued by Authorized Travel Agency in China.

How to Apply:

1. Applicants may personally submit his or her visa application or entrust someone (immediate family member or staff/co-worker) or a travel agency to submit on his or her behalf.

2. Office Hours: Monday to Friday (9 AM to 11 AM)

3. No appointment is required. Mail applications will not be accepted.

4. An Interview may be required if the consular officer will find it necessary.

1.       Regular Processing

 Other Things to be noted:

1. The application form must be complete and be filled out truthfully. It must be signed by applicants (if the applicant is minor, indicating their relationship, the parent or guardian may sign the application form on his/her behalf).

2. Application documents must be true and complete. Forged or incomplete materials will not be processed.

3. The applicant must truthfully answer the inquiry of the visa officer.

4. According to relevant Chinese laws and international practices, the consular officers have the right to request additional documents from the applicants and is not required to give reasons for denying a visa application.

5. Upon receiving the visa, applicants had the responsibility to check the contents of the visa. Should there be any questions, it shall be raised immediately.

6. The “J1”, “S1”, “X1” and “Z” visas are only for single entry which is valid for 3 months. Applicants must process their residence application with the local public security burean within 30 days from the date of entry.

7. The “C” visa can only be used when the applicants are performing their respective duties. Otherwise, they must apply for another visa. Applicants can only enter and leave China at the same time with the aircraft (train or ship). Those who will be entering or leaving on a different time must apply for another visa.

8. The consequences of the following circumstances shall be borne by the applicant:

i. If the visa application was not accepted due to the failure of the applicant to fill the visa form completely and truthfully;

ii. If the visa application was not accepted due to the fault of the applicant to submit the required passport or photo, or if, at the request of the visa officer, he/she did not provide for corresponding application materials.

iii. The visa expires due to the fault of the applicant, applying it too early; or when the applicant was denied of boarding or entry due to its failure to apply for visa within the appropriate period.

iv. The visa expires or becomes invalid due to the fault of the applicant or a third person;

v. If the applicant was denied of boarding or entry in China due to his/her fault, by failing to check the visa details/information (the number of entries, validity period, period of stay allowed) and the validity period of his/her passport.

vi. Other reasons, due to the fault of the applicant that might render the visa ineffective/invalid.

Terms in the Chinese Visa

1. The number of entries specified in the visa means the number of times the visa holder may enter China, which shall be made within the validity period of the entry specified in the visa;

2. The validity period of entry refers to the valid period of time during which the visa holder may enter China. Unless otherwise specified by the issuing authority, a visa is valid from the date of issuance and expires at 24:00/ 12 AM of Beijing time;

3. The duration of stay refers to the period of time during which the visa holder is allowed to stay in China after each entry. The counting begins the next day after the entry.

4. Short-term refers to staying in China for less than 180 days (including the 180th day)

5. Long-term refers to staying in China permanently or for more than 180 days.

6. The “Authorized Tourist Units” mainly include the tourism bureaus (committees) of the provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities directly under the Central Government, CITS Group Corporation, China International Travel Service Ltd., Head Office, China Travel Service Head Office Co., Ltd., China CYTS Tours Holding Co., Ltd., China National Travel Service Group Corporation Ltd.,, China Travel Service (Holdings) Hong Kong Ltd., etc.
